Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH)
Instagram @nusms.pbuh
PBUH is an adhoc under NUSMS dedicated to deepening the community’s love for and connection with Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. It seeks to unite the NUS Muslim community by learning about the Prophet s.a.w.'s life, embodying his teachings, and nurturing enduring love for him. Guided by the L.I.F.E. mission, PBUH strives to:
Learn about Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.'s life, beauty, character, and sacrifices
Inculcate his values and teachings into our everyday lives
Follow his practices as much as possible
Ensure that the love for him is Everlasting and not short-lived
The objectives of the project are fundamentally grounded by the following narration of the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w., “None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind” (Bukhari & Muslim)
As a start to our key series of events and theme for the AY, event 1 delved into the topic of Hadith Sciences and Terminology (Mustolah Al-Hadith). Our esteemed speaker, Ustaz Luqman Hakim, explored two crucial areas that form the foundation for one of the two primary sources of Islamic knowledge: the Qur’an and Sunnah. Just as importantly, the talk touched on key roles we have as Muslims in preserving the centuries of scholarly work and transmission of the prophetic tradition, through verifying our sources and the authenticity of the narrations of our Prophet s.a.w.
For our second event, we focused on emulating the character and timeless sunnah of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. in our daily lives. The goal was to explore how we can apply his s.a.w. teachings in our relationships, actions, and emotions.
Ustaz Harith opened the panel by sharing the story of Imam Busiri’s recovery through reciting the Qasidah Burdah, and emphasised that love for the Prophet s.a.w. is embedded within us all, and that this love is not bound by external actions alone. Ustazah Unaisah then continued the discussion by exploring love, moderation, and living with intention, all of which were core aspects of the Prophet s.a.w.'s character. She linked these qualities to practical actions and the mindset required to lead a balanced life, while embodying the Prophet s.a.w.'s teachings.
For our final key event of the academic year, we chose to focus on the importance of community in Islam and how the Prophet s.a.w. was a man deeply committed to serving his people. Building upon the previous event, we sought to go a step further by learning how to actively apply his Sunnah in our service to the community.
Our esteemed and returning speaker, Ustaz Mukhtar, shared valuable insights, emphasising the importance of transforming oneself before seeking to bring about change in others. We also introduced an activity before the talk: our very own rendition of Monopoly, where the audience had the opportunity to learn about various sunnahs in a fun and interactive, gamified format.
Later that night, a Qiyam was held, followed by a heartfelt sharing from Ustaz Nasrullah on purifying the heart before serving others—beautifully complementing the earlier talk.
Going into our term, we were met with the blessed month of Rabi’ul Awwal. In line with the tradition passed down by our seniors, the team launched a publicity and informational initiative to commemorate this sacred month, focusing on its significance as the month of the Prophet s.a.w.'s birth. The intention was to enlighten the public on the virtues of Rabi’ul Awwal and to reignite love for the Prophet s.a.w. by reflecting on his life, legacy, and the mercy he brought to the world.
Our Rabi’ul Awwal series took on a fresh twist with the introduction of three new characters: Nono, Nohal, and Nolah. More than just cute mascots, the trio was created to make this year’s series more engaging and enjoyable for our audience. In collaboration with Muslim.Sg, we posted five comic-styled posts on our Instagram page, each exploring different topics related to the virtues of Rabi’ul Awwal and our beloved Prophet s.a.w.
After exploring the timelessness of the Prophet s.a.w.'s Sunnah and the scholarly methods of its preservation through Events 1 and 2, we decided to further our efforts by introducing the first four narrations from Imam An-Nawawi’s 40 Aḥādīth. Through our Monday Hadith for Thought (HFT) initiative, we offered bite-sized summaries of these narrations to make them more accessible and digestible for our audience.
In addition, we launched Jumu’ah Jewels (JJ), where we shared selected selawats and highlighted noble characteristics of the Prophet s.a.w's. Both of these also served as a preamble to the upcoming Grand Maulid, helping to keep our followers engaged and steadily building up reflections and reminders leading to the event.
During the blessed month of Ramadhan, we took the opportunity to do a collaborative publicity initiative with our sister ad-hoc, Qur’an: The Immense Ocean (QTIO). We centralised the theme of the collaboration around the saying of Aishah r.a that “His character (Muhammad s.a.w.) was the Qur’an”, ultimately highlighting how the essence of both adhocs were closely intertwined with each other.
We posted four reels on our Instagram page as part of the series. The first reel served as an introduction to the overall theme, while the second and third featured lighthearted skits that highlighted the character of our Prophet s.a.w. through selected Qur’anic verses. The final reel took the form of a street-style interview, where we asked NUS students to share their thoughts on istiqomah (steadfastness) and how we can strive to maintain it even after Ramadhan.
أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللَّٰهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ ٱللَّٰهِ
I bear witness that there is no deity but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of God.
The significance of Rasulullah ﷺ is clear, as belief in him is part of the Syahada, the first pillar of Islam. The Prophet’s light already resides in our hearts—it only needs to be stirred, like sugar in chai whose sweetness we can taste once mixed. Such is our love for him ﷺ. Undergraduates who feel called to spread knowledge and love for Rasulullah ﷺ have come together to forge bonds and lead events that reignite this love within our hearts.
