beKhayr is a local humanitarian adhoc under NUSMS that connects NUS undergraduates with volunteer opportunities and marginalised communities in Singapore.
Mission: Nurture individuals to serve His creations with compassion, empathy and humility.
Vision: Develop a community of excellence that strives for goodness towards the betterment of society.
beKhayr’s first event aimed to raise youth awareness of our migrant brothers through lighthearted, meaningful interactions. We hosted 40 migrant brothers from Punggol Dormitory and 130 NUS and non NUS participants. Featuring our signature walking element, the event took on an Amazing Race format at Botanic Gardens, where groups played games at various checkpoints. These activities fostered interaction, mutual understanding, and enjoyment between students and migrant brothers.
Our second event aimed to uplift our migrant worker brothers by equipping them with practical skills for daily life. Building on our first event, we introduced a Skills Carnival featuring booths on basic English, financial literacy, and digital literacy. With Hari Raya approaching, we also included a card-making booth for them to send greetings to their families. The event concluded with a meaningful Iftar shared between the migrant brothers, the beKhayr team, and volunteers.
In our third event, we celebrated Hari Raya with our migrant brothers and promoted cultural exchange between them and the youth. It featured cultural performances, including a Malay dance by NUS Ilsa Tari, along with mass games like a traditional clothing fashion show. The celebration ended with everyone sharing a hearty meal of Nasi Briyani.
As university students, we are at a time in our lives where we are pushed to focus on ourselves, our studies, our careers above all. With beKhayr, you can make a difference in the lives of the people around us and will learn more about the joys, struggles, and perspectives of different groups of people in Singapore.
