Nisaa’ is an adhoc under NUSMS, established for Ladies, by Ladies. We serve as a platform for Muslim women in NUS to engage and interact through various events organized throughout the academic year.
Guided by the theme Embracing the Diamond Within for AY24/25, Nisaa’ embarked on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, organizing a multitude of events which brought ladies across different backgrounds together.
Nisaa’s Welcome Tea was hosted specially to Welcome NUS Muslimah Freshmen into the wider NUS Muslimah Community. Through activities such as Tasbih making, Reflections and Sharings, the Welcome Tea provided the opportunity for the Muslimah community to get to know one another and be introduced to Nisaa’ events and initiatives lined up for the academic year.
Honouring the Legacy of Ummahat Al Mu'mineen (Mothers of the Believers)
What is the Value of Women in Islam? In this first installation of Nisaa’s journey to Embracing the Diamond Within, we tuned in to a talk by Ustazah Fatin Afika, who shared about the Best Role Models for every Muslimah, the wives of Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Learning about their strength and resilience, we reflected upon how we could become better believers individually, in families and within communities.
In the next part of Nisaa’s journey towards Embracing the Diamond Within, we aimed to Recognise the Value of Women around Us and discover how each of us can learn from one another. Jointly organised with NTUMS Safwa, this fun-filled day provided the opportunity for ladies across different tertiaries to forge new friendships and reignite existing ones, exploring the value of Ukhuwwah Fillah (sisterhood for the sake of Allah s.w.t.) Nisaa’ invited Ustazah Amirah Munawwarah and Nisaa’ HOPE Network, who shared valuable insights about strength and the wider Muslimah Community at risk.
Embracing the Diamond Within
To end the journey of Embracing the Diamond Within, we Celebrated Strength in its different Forms – physical, mental and emotional. Lined with activities such as Rock Climbing, Lego Flower Making and Bouquet Arrangement, this event aimed to explore the meaning of well-being of a Muslimah. Nisaa’ invited Ustazah Nur Hidayah, who had brought us through the understanding of Mental Health from an Islamic Lens.
A Social Media Campaign
Nisaa’ celebrated World Hijab Day this Academic Year with a social media campaign, in collaboration with Muslim.Sg. As part of this campaign, we reached out to the community through Instagram Stories and Street Interviews to understand the Value of Hijab to them. Additionally, we released a video reflecting on the power that Hijab brings to 3 Muslimah students in NUS. Finally, we reached out to Ustazah Amirah Munawwarah, to share more on controversial opinions of the Hijab.
Nisaa' aims to foster a safe space and cultivate strong sisterhood within the Muslimah community, especially in NUS, so that we can come together and discuss topics regarding Iman (faith) while strengthening our spiritual wellbeing individually.
